How about we have a chat with Diaka Camara?

A woman of many talents, she leads a fast-paced life shuttling between Guinea, Paris, and the United States. She dares to challenge established norms, take on new ventures, and champion causes close to her heart. Discover Diaka Camara’s fast-paced daily life.

1/ How do you take care of your skin these days?
To be honest, I’m a tomboy, and unfortunately I spend very little time on anything related to beauty and skincare. You definitely shouldn’t follow my example! Add to that the fact that I’m extremely busy, which cuts down even further on the time I should be devoting to my skin. As a result, I’m on the lookout for products that are effective, natural, and easy to use. As a Guinean, I’ve long favored products from back home, especially shea butter and black soap, which I buy from Guinean artisans. These are local products of very high quality, and they also help support the artisans’ livelihoods. While these local products are certainly good, they don’t contain all the ingredients needed on their own to maintain healthy skin. Since I’m in Africa, it’s often very difficult for me to get certain brands, so I take advantage of my trips to restock. I pay very close attention to the ingredients and the manufacturer behind the products I buy. I may not always have time to take care of my skin, but that’s precisely why I always make sure the products I use are high-quality.

2/ How is your skin?
Honestly, I have to admit that I’ve never had any dermatological issues with my skin. The products I look for are mainly meant to moisturize and protect my skin. I’m in perfect harmony with my skin. I think it’ll let me know if I’m not taking good enough care of myself, lol.

3/ What does it mean to you to feel good about yourself?
For me, feeling good about myself means having self-confidence. It means being at peace with who I am—mentally, spiritually, and physically. I sincerely believe that our skin also reflects our state of mind, our emotions, and our health.

4 / You’re a producer and host. What’s it like to embrace your femininity as a woman in this industry?
As a public figure, you’re constantly under the scrutiny of others. In a society where appearances matter so much, if you’re not comfortable in your own skin, you can be deeply affected by criticism, judgment, and comments. That’s why, personally, I focus more on business matters. One of my challenges as a woman in this industry is to support other women so that our talents are recognized.

5/ What’s next for you?
I’m currently working on Season 3 of the reality TV show“Le Mannequin,” and on awareness campaigns as part of the fight against COVID-19. Through my foundation, “The Diaka Camara Foundation,” I’ve launched a telethon to raise funds and purchase food to support the most vulnerable people during this pandemic. As for the rest, it’s confidential for now, but I can’t wait to share my latest news very soon.

Thank you to Diaka Camara for his answers, and see you soon for the next issue!
