Nuhanciam X Capill'Care: An Interview with Yébé Diouf

Untitled (1)

There is an intrinsic connection between our founder, Muriel Berradia, and the founder of the Capill'Care brand, Yébé Diouf: a shared commitment to serving modern, dynamic, and multicultural women. While Nuhanciam specializes in skin tones ranging from medium to dark, Capill'Care focuses on kinky, curly, and coily hair, as well as dreadlocks.

So it seemed only natural to us to feature Yébé Diouf this March—a month that’s perfect for giving women a voice. Discover Capill’Care, its values, and its products that might soon win you over.

1. Can you tell us about the benefits of Ayurvedic hair care?

Ayurvedic hair care is natural. It draws on the ancient wisdom of traditional Indian medicine, Ayurveda. This “science of life” aims to achieve balance between the body and the mind. To do so, it draws on the very best that nature has to offer.

Ayurvedic treatments use plants that can heal and beautify the skin, nails, and especially the hair.

That’s why our products contain organic plant-based powders made from neem, amla, fenugreek, brahmi, moringa, and ashwagandha. These plants contain powerful active ingredients. They strengthen the hair and promote a healthy scalp. They’re also perfect for keeping your hair shiny and incredibly silky!

2. What values do Nuhanciam and Capill'Care share?

There are many, but I believe that, above all, what our brands have in common is that they cater to women with specific needs. Nuhanciam develops products for medium to dark skin tones, and Capill'Care creates hair care products for kinky, frizzy, curly, and dreadlocked hair so that these women can take care of themselves the way they deserve.  I think that’s what was a major driving force behind the creation of our respective brands. Rather than waiting for things to change, we might as well be the ones to bring about that change!

3. What is your signature skincare product, and why?

That's a tough question! I put a lot of work into developing each recipe, and each one is designed to meet a very specific need.

I would say, however, that Ay Ay Oil is Capill'Care’s flagship product. It’s a stimulating oil that promotes hair growth and slows hair loss. It contains hemp oil, black cumin oil, castor oil, as well as fenugreek and moringa. Ay Ay Oil also combats hair loss. It can be used both as a treatment and as an oil treatment—what more could you ask for?

4. What would your routine be for someone experiencing hair loss?

I would recommend that she start by using the Tri Pow(d)er Gloss mask. It's perfect for cleansing the scalp and moisturizing the hair. I recommend detangling the hair section by section with a wide-tooth comb, as gently as possible.

A good hair care routine continues with a shampoo, such as Paste It, which we've just developed.

Finally, it's a good idea to apply the stimulating oil regularly. It's very easy to apply and is the perfect complement to your other skincare products.

Hair loss treatments should target the hair shafts, but above all, the scalp. A healthy, well-nourished scalp is the key to healthy hair.

5. What is your definition of beautiful, healthy hair?

Beautiful, healthy hair is, above all, natural hair that is allowed to express its true nature. For textured hair, that means well-defined curls with plenty of bounce. Don’t be afraid of or ashamed of volume; on the contrary, I think you should take care of it with the right products.

Textured hair is much more fragile than Caucasian hair. This shouldn’t be seen as an inescapable fact, but rather as a characteristic to be aware of. Once you know this, you’ll know how to take care of your hair and what hair care routine to follow. It was with this in mind that I created Capill’Care.

6. What is your vision of beauty?

I advocate for a vision of beauty that is resolutely healthy and natural. Every woman has the right to be proud of her hair and to be beautiful for who she is—not for who others want her to be. That’s why I’m proud to develop natural products as part of the “Nappy Hair” movement.

7. What's coming up for you?

My crowdfunding campaign is taking up all my energy. I’m working with the Ulule crowdfunding platform, one of the best in France in this field. Crowdfunding allows me to develop new products under the Capill’Care brand. We launched the campaign on February 27, and it’s already a huge success! We’ve surpassed our goal thanks to the Capill’familly! The entire Capill’Care community has rallied behind us, and it really warms my heart.

As soon as the campaign ends, I plan to develop new, innovative products, continuing to draw on time-honored beauty secrets.

Be part of this wonderful adventure on Ulule, and feel free to follow her on Instagram
